Time and Seasons

A time to be born and a time to die
A time to plant and a time to uproot
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to tear down and a time to build
A time to weep and a time to laugh
A time to mourn and a time to dance
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them
A time to embrace and a time to refrain
A time to search and a time to give up
A time to keep and a time to throw up
A time to tear and a time to mend
A time to be silent and a time to speak
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

I readily admit that I would rather laugh than weep, dance than mourn, and gain than lose. I mean who doesn’t. Yet I am aware that the needs of embracing and enduring the lessons and opportunities of every season that comes to me, and making the best out of it. To me, whatever season of life, it’s the season to trust and have faith in God.

For some, New Year is a time for celebration and party. Or maybe a time for reflection. This time around, my New Year is to spend with loved ones. It gives me a good excuse for not joining the bandwagon, you know, the squishing and sweating with the crowd, like two jellies blend into a gel. (Ok, sounds a little bit too extreme)

The best way to kick start a year is to spend a girlie day out, or rather some quality time with Ling. We don’t stick together like a Siamese Twins, and most of the time, months passed without any exchanging of words. Yet we share a very close-knitted bond. We talk about almost everything from boys, fashion, school, thoughts, dreams and hopes. And above all, we don’t judge one another. I guess one of the reasons behind our flourish friendship is attributed to the old fashioned way of communicating. Both of us appreciate the effort of writing letters and doing handmade cards for special occasions. Think about it, how many people in this century actually appreciate things like that? In contrary, we are the people who appreciate the sentimental and love the personal touch. Once, we had a good laugh over the aerogramme and she actually tumbling down from her chair for laughing too hard. Aah, good old memories.

I had a good time with Sean and Vmae as well. It is really funny given that we hardly hang out together back in our school days; we were in different classes, in different year, and owe different interests. Sean is the soon-to mathematician and Vmae is the future pharmacist, while numbers and science have never been my cup of tea. Yet we trio make tons of discovery together. Sometimes good things can come in different shapes and patterns.

What happens if you group a bunch of girls together? Yes, laughter, giggles and more laughter are expected. Oh well, girls will always be girls. It always makes me feel like a big kid again whenever I meet up with my childhood friends. It is amazing to see how the 11 years had made a wondrous change on each one of us. Jeanne, Li Fong and I were good friends when we were in elementary school, and all the way up to high school. Together we been through different seasons of life where we witnessed one another’s growth and maturation. And now, we are looking forward five years time down the road. Hmm, will we end up something like the Sex in the City? Only time will tell.

Catching with the old times has taught me to learn from the history with wisdom, embrace the present with grace, and dream about the future with great hope.

Folks, have a blessed 2009! Cheers :)
