You have a friend in me

For the many Saturdays, today is the one day I actually get to sleep in, and also sit in at home. Pleasantly slow and lazy I would say :)

Past Saturdays were spent on catching up with old friends, reconnecting the dots and filling in the gap. And it felt so good having to bring out that familiar and contented feeling again. Sometimes it’s too easy to take our own words for granted. How often we say, “we should catch up again”, “see you soon” and I do wonder when is again, and when is soon. And I’m guilty of that.

Time always seems to get into the way, doesn’t it? We rush from one thing to another, saying “I’m so busy.” It’s almost a badge of honor. And ridiculously people do feel guilty for staying idle. With world crisis in Egypt and Libyan, and disaster in Christchurch, it has shaken me up somewhat. Perhaps it's time to take a little effort to connect with real people.

Bestie Ling was back here for about 2 months, and now she is back to Adelaide. We only met up thrice, not much but the thought of going extra mile and squeezing our way through the daily chores and commitments really did mean a whole lot more to us. Sometimes she would drive up to KL adventurously and at other times, I would board a train down to Klang. It takes effort. Really, it does. And I’m glad that we did. And this is what it matters.

Knowing that I was in Klang, almost spontaneously my high school friends and I would stir something up! We are pretty much a spontaneous bunch. Together we explore the town of Pandamaran, neat place with lots of hidden gems.  Sitting across each other, we all share our life snippets, travel stories, desires, and also, recalling the old times when writing a love letter is still a common habit...all these made us laughed our heads off! We had left school for about 5 years now. Our faces may have shown passage of time but deep down, we all still feel the same. To me, despite the 8 years of friendship, there is always something new to learn and discover of each other and this is what makes us going strong.

Recently, Ser and I had our very inaugural girl’s day out, just the two of us. We both didn’t realize it until we actually really though about it. How ironic we thought, after years of knowing each other. We had our favourite Ikea’s meatballs, playtime at Ikea’s showroom and an evening tea after rain, accompanied with jazzy tunes. Ikea is literally a playground for us! Our inner child went wild, by hopping from one place to another, and bouncing from one chair to another! Basically we were messing around like children with itchy hands!

If we really come to think of it, friends are found in a similar pattern. Friends coming together and growing apart, but with a little extra effort, friends are to ride the same wavelength and make memories together!
